Grief               can,               and               usually               does,               involve               shock,               denial,               bargaining,               fear,               shame,               guilt,               resentment,               anger,               sadness               and               ultimately               acceptance.

As               we               maneuver               through               these               feelings,               we               can               feel               overwhelmed,               almost               as               if               we're               going               a               bit               crazy.

What               can               someone               do               to               cope               with               a               job               transfer?

"Most               importantly,               allow               yourself               to               have               all               of               the               feelings               mentioned               above.

Trying               to               suppress               them               usually               doesn't               help.

If               you               are               feeling               resentment               toward               a               spouse               who               had               the               higher               desire               to               make               the               transfer,               talk               to               them               about               it.

Start               by               telling               them               you               need               to               talk               through               your               feelings               and               you               aren't               doing               it               to               hurt               them,               or               to               make               them               feel               guilty;               that               you               just               need               to               get               some               of               the               feelings               out.

Then               tell               them               how               you               wanted               to               support               them,               and               your               family,               in               making               this               move,               but               you               didn't               realize               how               hard               it               would               be.

You               can               say,               "I've               actually               been               excited               about               making               this               change               in               our               lives'"I               just               didn't               realize               it               would               feel               this               hard               to               move.

Secondly,               focus               on               where               you               have               control.

Anytime               you               begin               to               feel               overwhelmed,               take               a               breath,               sit               back,               and               try               to               prioritize               first               things               first.

You'll               be               amazed               at               how               unimportant               much               of               what               you               would               normally               think               is               important               has               become.

You'll               learn               a               hot               meal,               a               clean               bed,               and               unpacked               boxes               can               help               you               feel               a               lot               better.

Third,               begin               making               plans               to               enjoy               your               new               environment.

This               might               mean               going               out               with               new               co-workers               for               lunch,               meeting               your               neighbors,               or               attending               a               cultural               event               in               your               new               city.

The               more               you               can               integrate               yourself               into               your               new               community,               the               happier               you               will               be."
What               type               of               professional               help               is               available               for               someone               who               is               having               a               hard               time               coping               with               a               job               transfer?

"There               is               a               lot               of               help               for               those               who               struggle               with               a               new               transfer.

You               can               look               into               joining               organizations               like               Rotary,               Toastmasters,               or               volunteer               for               a               committee               through               your               new               church.

Anywhere               you               can               get               involved,               and               do               something               physically,               (i.e.

offer               to               make               the               coffee),               will               help               you               begin               to               feel               connected.

You               can               continue               to               call               friends               and               family,               email,               text               and               Skype.

You               can               talk               with               your               new               pastor.
